Evaluation

We assess the impact of nonprofit organizations, public sector agencies or foundations on a range of populations. These projects may vary from focused, short-term program evaluations to complex, multi-year, multi-site studies.

Our evaluation designs generally integrate qualitative and quantitative methods. We are strongly committed to including the stakeholder communities in the design, data collection, and analysis stages as appropriate.

Strategic Planning

Our approach integrates creative planning processes with the careful use of data. We have developed strategic plans for funding organizations, government agencies, and community groups. This work always includes practical mechanisms for translating plans into action.

Community Planning

In recent years, state and federal government agencies have mandated participatory planning efforts in such areas as HIV/AIDS, homelessness, early childhood services, juvenile justice, and youth development.

We have developed a practice in the design and facilitation of community planning projects that prioritizes broad community involvement and synthesizes the information into succinct planning. The final reports prove useful to community members and policymakers alike.

Needs Assessments and Feasibility Studies

We conduct numerous assessments of need and feasibility. These designs are developed in partnership with our clients to ensure the information will be useful.

We typically build on local community knowledge and experience by recruiting peer interviewers who are trained and supervised by Harder+Company project staff. Past projects included epidemiological studies, requiring Harder+Company to develop estimates of the incidence and prevalence of certain conditions in specific populations. Other work involved capital planning as well as projections of demand for specific services within target populations.

Policy Analysis

We analyze the impact of policy changes and help our clients develop new policies. This process involves the development of economic models as well as formal legislative analyses to anticipate the impacts of new policies and to make recommendations grounded in research findings and empirical evidence.
