The mission of La Clínica is to improve the quality of life in the diverse communities they serve by providing culturally appropriate, high quality, and accessible health care for all.
The Community Health Education section of La Clínica de la Raza in Oakland, California hired Harder+Company to assess the effectiveness of its Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Prevention Program. IPV incorporated three separate program components:
1) School-based program targeting 4th & 5th grade children;
2) Community-based program targeting adult women and men; and
3) Health Promoter School 'Escuela Para Promotores,' a training program targeting adults.
We developed and implemented pre-test and post-test surveys as the evaluation method for each of the IPV program components (the School-Based Program, the community-based program, and Escuela Para Promotores). When appropriate the questionnaires were distributed in Spanish and English. We also conducted a series of focus groups with participating 4th & 5th graders. For this young target population, the team encouraged participation by inviting the children to draw pictures to illustrate lessons learned from the trainings they attended. These illustrations are included in the final report.
The findings from the surveys were compiled in a final evaluation report submitted to La Clínica de la Raza and to their funder, the Department of Maternal and Child Health.
